Zoom Tips

Our "Room"

Please remember that our "Room" isn't a room at all.  It's a meeting.  The meeting is set up so that anyone can "start the meeting early", essentially making it a "room" for most purposes.  However, if the Meeting's creator (Dayton) or a designated Alt-Host (Jack) isn't in the meeting, certain features are disabled.  In order to be designated as Alt-Host, you must have a paid Zoom account, and must be added to the meeting by it's Creator.

Any given user (paid or not) can only be in one Zoom meeting at a time.  (Corporate or Teaching accounts may be in two).  Therefore if the Meeting's Creator (Dayton) is hosting another meeting, then the "Sunrise Serenity" meeting will not be available, and those trying to enter will receive a message to that effect.  If an Alt-Host (Jack) starts the meeting (at any time), then others can go into it as usual.

Name Change - One-Time

Note: This is for the current session only.  Next time you log into Zoom, it will revert back to your "Real" name.

To change your screen name in the current meeting, hover your mouse cursor over your video/picture.  In the top-right, a three-dot icon will appear.  This is your menu button.  Click it, then on the menu, click "Rename".  A box will open for you to change your name.

Name Change - Permanent

While simple, there are several options depending on your situation.  So here's a link to a page that explains it all:  https://www.alphr.com/how-to-change-your-user-name-in-zoom/

Voice Phone - Mute

To mute/un-mute on a phone-only call, use *6.  (On the dialing pad, tap the star/asterisk button, followed by the six button).

Drag & Drop - Current Session

If you have the full version of Zoom and are in Gallery View (showing all present at once), then you can now drag & drop each person to re-arrange them.

I personally find this helpful to keep track of who's shared and who hasn't.  Whoever's sharing, I put in the top-left position.  That way I know that whoever's in the bottom-right hasn't shared yet.

Screen Sharing

This feature is currently OFF to prevent "Zoom Bombing" (a user comes in, grabs screen share to display porn, then exits).

If you have a need for it to be turned on, the Host can turn it back on for the session.
